Part II: Getting the Most Out of Your Ev... > Getting the Most Out of Files and Fo...

7. Getting the Most Out of Files and Folders

In this chapter, you’ll learn how to:

  • View details such as image dimensions and music bit rates in Windows Explorer.

  • Customize the Send To command, the New menu, and the Open With list.

  • Run Windows Explorer from the command line.

  • Create and edit file types.

  • Move My Documents to a new location.

Besides dealing with applications, most Microsoft Windows users probably spend much of their computing time performing file maintenance chores such as copying and moving files and folders, creating new folders, renaming files, and deleting files and folders. The procedures for these basic tasks are all well known, so we won’t cover them here. Instead, we’ll look at quite a few techniques that you can incorporate into your file maintenance routines to take some of the drudgery out of this unglamorous side of Windows, and to help you perform these chores faster and more efficiently.
