Specifying XML Files

You can use XML files to specify additional settings when migrating user documents and application data. The following table shows the syntax for the different XML files.

Specifying XML File SwitchesDescription
Migrate user documents and application data
/i:migdocs.xml /i:migapp.xml
C:\usmtx86>loadstate c:\migstore
/i:c:\usmtx86\migdocs.xml /i:c:
\usmtx86\migapp.xml /lac
C:\usmtx86>loadstate c:\migstore
/i:migdocs.xml /i:migapp.xml /lac

The migdocs.xml and migapp.xml files exist in the usmt folder by default. You can use them as they exist, or modify them.

Note

These are the same migdocs.xml and migapp.xml files used with scanstate. However, you can modify them to use with loadstate even if you didn’t modify them before running scanstate.

Specify specific user folders, files, and file types
/i:miguser.xml
C:\usmtx86>loadstate c:\migstore
/i:c:\usmtx86\miguser.xml /i:c:
\usmtx86\migapp.xml /lac

The miguser.xml file identifies user folders, files, and file types to migrate. It does not specify which users to migrate.

Note

The miguser.xml file cannot be used with the migdocs.xml file.

Set path of XML files
/auto:path
/auto:c:\usmtx86
C:\usmtx86>loadstate c:\migstore
/auto:c:\usmtx86 /lac

You can use the /auto switch to specify the location of XML files once. The example command automatically uses the migdoc.xml and migapp.xml files in the c:\usmtx86 folder. It also sets the verbosity logging level to 13 (the same as /v:13), which enables all logging.
