CHAPTER 2: Installing Windows > Understanding Installation Types

Understanding Installation Types

Windows can be installed using several methods. All methods use a technology known as imaging, but you can pull the image for a given computer from several sources, such as removable media or network locations. This section introduces you to these various installation types and the important task of managing product identification keys.

Installing from Removable Media

The first installation method and the most commonly used in smaller organizations is via removable media. This includes DVDs and USB media. To install from USB, you must create a bootable USB flash drive with the Windows 7 installation source files on it. Do so using the following steps:

  1. Connect the USB flash drive to a computer that already has Windows 7 installed.
