What Types of Opportunities Are Available?

As you may recall, SAP projects create a variety of roles and job functions both in the technical and business arenas. Whether a company is planning an SAP implementation or maintaining an existing SAP landscape, a support network is required to keep the systems technically running, functioning well, and in a state where the requirements of the business are met. In this section, we look at the types of opportunities available in more detail.

Technical Positions

Similar to the business and functional positions, there are wide varieties of technical positions required to keep an SAP landscape running effectively. Hour 6, “SAP NetWeaver: The Foundation for SAP,” outlined Basis or NetWeaver expert roles serving as SAP system administrators. Experienced or senior Basis personnel often take on team lead or architect roles and are responsible for designing the overall SAP technical strategy for their enterprise. SAP security, which is also a Basis component, has become specialized enough that it now stands as its own job function in the majority of companies. SAP security experts work closely with the functional teams to make sure end users can do their job while at the same time maintaining the system’s business process integrity.
