Chapter 11. Configuring X > Suggested Exercises

Suggested Exercises

1:Figure out what startup scripts X uses on your system. If default startup scripts exist in your home directory, back up a copy of each of these scripts with a .dist extension so that you can restore the default configuration at any time.
2:Alter your personal X startup scripts to add a clock to your desktop. If a clock is present by default and xdaliclock is installed, switch your clock program to xdaliclock instead. If you don't have X startup scripts in your home directory, make them. Make sure you edit the right files for your system.
3:Alter your startup scripts to use a different window manager than the default, if more than one window manager is installed. If you don't like your new choice of window manager, switch back.
4:In your startup scripts, change the color of your background. If xloadimage or xv is installed on your system, try to put a picture in your background rather than just a color.
5:Start xterm with different foreground and background colors until you find a comfortable configuration.
