Chapter 8. Service Assurance > Service Assurance Architecture

Service Assurance Architecture

A frequent need in the Network Operations Center (NOC) is to capture alarms and events from various types of equipment, translate them to a standardized alarm format, and display the alarm to a web portal, as described in the previous section. This section discusses the architecture for obtaining information from the infrastructure and displaying events and alarms. Figure 8-8 shows a typical customer service assurance architecture. The architecture can be based on the ITU-T Telecommunications Management Network (TMN) layered model or other standards such as TMF eTOM. Based on TMN, the architecture would have an element management layer, a network management layer, and a service management layer. If TMF eTOM is used, the architecture would have resource management and service management layers.
