Chapter 16. The Green Data Center

This chapter covers many topics related to the history of data centers as well as modern data center design. A history of servers, data center, cabling, cooling, racks, aisles, raised floors, and other relevant topics are covered. The focus of this chapter is on layout and cooling because of the green focus of the book but the other topics are also discussed.

My firm has done a lot of data center design and relocation, and I have acted as the lead on all these advanced projects. This chapter introduces some key data center-related topics and represents a small portion of what takes place when designing a new data center.
