SCVMM 2008 Architecture Overview

The architecture and components of SCVMM 2008 provide its functionality. In this section, we’ll explore the various components of the SCVMM 2008 system.

SCVMM 2008 provides virtualization administration and centralized control of your virtualization environment. It lets you perform rapid provisioning, migrate physical servers, and migrate VMs from other virtualization platforms. One of the core enhancements in SCVMM 2008 is the ability to manage additional virtualization platforms: Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware environments.

A SCVMM 2008 implementation consists of required core components. Other components aren’t required but are useful for specific scenarios, such as creating a test and development virtualization environment. Figure 11-2 shows the SCVMM architecture and components.
