Set User Location

Office 365 is a global, Internet-based service. Even for small businesses, it’s not uncommon to have users in multiple countries. The rules and regulations that govern privacy, security, and access to personal information by government agencies vary from country to country. In addition, the laws governing voice and video carriers are different. In some cases, Lync Online is not allowed to carry voice data. As a result, Microsoft has to know the location of each user to offer only the services that are permitted for the region.

The User Location setting does not change where a user’s information is located. If your company’s data is provisioned in the United States data center and you have users in other parts of the world, they will all connect to the United States data center regardless of the Location setting. Set the location for the user, and then click Next to proceed.
