Chapter 5. Security Guidance for Citrix ... > Configuring Session Reliability (XTE...

Configuring Session Reliability (XTE Service)

Session Reliability is available with the Advanced, Enterprise, and Platinum Editions of XenApp. This feature allows a user's applications to remain open even if they lose network connectivity. Users continue to see the application they are using until network connectivity resumes. This feature uses the Common Gateway Protocol (CGP) on TCP port 2598.

If your clients are operating on a network with drastic changes in bandwidth or network reliability problems, Session Reliability can be configured to keep the application window available to the client while the ICA software is attempting to restore connectivity behind the scenes. To keep users from continuing to click links or type text while the connection is being restored; the user's display freezes and the mouse pointer becomes an hourglass icon until the application connection is restored.
