Introduction

I came to the conclusion, far too late in my career, that IT governance, process and process management, and human behavior are essential to the success of IT. Even later in my career I realized the even more crucial necessity to address these disciplines simultaneously. After spending nearly the past five years traveling around the world evangelizing my beliefs, a number of folks talked me into writing them down.

I had mixed emotions about writing a book on the topic of IT governance, process, and organizational behavior. First, there are some great books available on these topics. Second, I want to talk to people about my views of these disciplines. I want to engage them in conversation and I want to exchange ideas. The notion of evangelizing through print feels sterile and detached to me. I have been blogging for four years, but it is okay to be conversational in blogs. I have come to learn that business books are a far different animal, and most, if not all of them, based on research and formal studies. I am not a researcher and I am not an analyst. I am an evangelist. I’ve spent my entire professional life as an “IT guy” and my desire to help my compatriots has enabled me to endure constant travel and time away from my family for more than four years now. That same desire drove me to overcome the challenges of writing this book.
