If the goal is hard and a real challenge but you are motivated and excited, the following ques- tions will start to put some practical thinking and motivation in place. Positive steps to achieving your goals Write down clearly why you want to achieve this goal. Name the value it fulfils and any conflicting values that achieving this will affect. Do you need to choose one over the other? Name the character strengths that you can use to help achieve it. What is your belief in the outcome and how realistic are the beliefs you hold that are important to achieving this goal? (We will look at this more closely in Chapter 6.) How can you be more positive, using past experience of success? What will it mean to you to achieve this goal? How can you enjoy the process as much as the result? What will be fun or exciting? What are the practical issues? Can you break your goal down into smaller challenges or mini-goals? What is the first step? Can you be more creative in your approach? Where can you get the support you need? Do you need someone to help you? Is there a skill you need to learn first? Are you using a growth mindset? How can you create opportunities that will support your goal?
