A person cannot be developed without self-involvement. This is true with respect to the development of a student too. The degree of involvement of a student in self-development depends upon the ability of an educational institute to make him participate in the developmental activities on one hand, and the efforts put in by the student to develop himself on the other hand. The responsibility to involve a student in self-development, thus, rests partly on the institute and partly on the student himself.
The ability of an institute to motivate its students to participate in self-developmental activities depends on the type of the curriculum of the institute. Inter-active teaching and learning, sports activities, team games, group discussions, debates and project works provide opportunities to the students to take active part in group activities. They enable the students to practise the roles of a leader, follower and peer. They help in the development of physical fitness, mental robustness and competitive spirit amongst the students. An educational institute should, therefore, organize the aforesaid activities periodically and encourage its students to participate in all of them.
