Today’s More Dangerous World
We need to be more competitive in today’s world, not less, because it is so much swifter than Franklin’s world and so much more severe than Schumacher’s. Only you can adapt the tools and principles to the new social needs of today.
Our business schools, however, are preparing students to be less competitive. I have observed that graduates of business schools, after three years of MBA training, become large-system optimizers without any practical experience in change management and leveraging social value. They do not become Pat Mahoneys. They borrow before they truly invent. They are insufficiently enterprising, in other words. They can talk it but do not walk it. At times, I have seen MBAs more stupid about business than before business school. They rapidly fall into debt after graduation.
