But sometimes you may be working with a client who has particular concerns that are time critical, or you may be waiting for some important infor- mation from your spouse or daughter and you want to know it has arrived in your inbox without having to constantly monitor your e-mails. For these situations a useful feature is to create an Alert. An alert is a specific sound for that person. The alert can be used just for a day or, in the case of some of your work clients, longer. Creating an alert is very similar to creating rules. Now that you are familiar with the process of creating rules in Microsoft Outlook (as illustrated in figures 10-1 through 10-11), let's just walk through the steps for creating an alert:
