The concept behind resolution hasn't really changed with Adobe Photoshop CS, but for the film and video crowd, Adobe's latest brew offers support for nonsquare pixels, video document presets, and Automatic Action-Safe and Title-Safe Guides. For the rest of us, there are two new resampling methods—Bicubic Smoother and Bicubic Sharper—that give us improved options for enlarging or reducing our images. |
Resolution is one of those concepts that have a huge impact on the quality of your images, yet most people don't understand it. Part of the reason is that the term resolution can relate to so many things (monitors, printers, scanners, digital cameras, images, and more), and with each device it might mean something slightly different. But the subject is by no means beyond the grasp of someone who is committed enough to read through this chapter a few times. The rewards are smaller file sizes, higher-quality images, and significantly less frustration. Let's start off with the general concept of resolution.
