Chapter 9. Organizing and Finding Images

9. Organizing and Finding Images

BACK IN THE LATE 1980S, David had the chance to see a computer set up with an unbelievable amount of hard drive space: Two 20 MB hard drives and a 40 MB hard drive, all daisy chained together, using SCSI. He was floored. After all, what on Earth would anyone do with that much storage? Obviously, it didn’t take long for us all to find out.

Today, most of us have hundreds or thousands of digital images filling up our hard drives, CDs, DVDs, and pretty much any other storage medium we can get our hands on. It’s a double-edged sword: As you get rolling with Photoshop, you can become quite good at processing large numbers of images. The downside to this, of course, is that it’s downright painful to organize all these puppies! You may face the challenge of finding a particular image months later, knowing that it’s buried somewhere in the hundreds of images you’ve taken with your digital camera since then.
