Images for Other Programs

Import Photoshop Documents Directly

I want to use Photoshop images in Adobe InDesign and Illustrator. What’s the best format to use to save Photoshop files for these other programs?

While many grizzled veterans of digital media are used to converting Photoshop documents to formats like TIFF, EPS, or JPEG before using them in other applications, that step is much less necessary these days. For example, if you import a Photoshop file into InDesign, you can make individual layers in the imported Photoshop document visible or invisible. When planning a workflow involving Photoshop documents, it’s worth your while to look into whether you can simply use your original Photoshop document in the other application. If you can, you won’t have to generate and track as many files.
