Manually Mapping Tone

If the auto or default settings aren’t producing the image you want, you should manually adjust the Adjust tab tone settings. As a general rule of thumb, this is done after setting white balance, as white balance adjustments alter tonal distribution and before tweaking the curve control found under the Curve tab. (It’s also true that changing tonal distribution affects white balance settings, so this is one of those rules you can argue both ways),

Briefly, in as non-technical terms as I can get for a very technical subject, the list to the right shows what the various tonal control sliders do. Figure 4-50
