Chapter 2. Sight: The Realm of Images > Setting Timing and Selecting Transition...

Setting Timing and Selecting Transitions

Novices often underrate the power of proper timing and transitions. A slide show is a performance. Neglecting the dramatic effect of skillful pacing and transitions diminishes the impact of that performance. The two together are powerful tools for establishing the mood of a show and controlling the way slides are presented to the viewer. It is easy to simply use the ProShow defaults or use the Slide menu to assign random effects, but not as effective as crafting them to complement your content and the overall effect you are trying to achieve.

Adjusting Intervals

The default settings for ProShow allow three seconds each for new slide and transition. That’s okay for simply displaying pictures. But the complexity of the image, the time needed to accomplish a special effect or enable movement, and the way a slide works with the ones placed before and after it are all factors you should consider to get professional results. Sounds daunting, doesn’t it? Not to worry. It’s really a matter of developing an educated eye, which comes with practice, and using the right tools—which are conveniently built right into ProShow.
