Using the Sprayed Strokes filter on two separate layers, with strokes going in opposite directions, creates a crosshatch effect that combines with Diffuse Glow to create this powerfully illustrative result.
ORIGINAL IMAGE
1. Duplicate the Background layer three times by dragging it down to the Create a new layer icon in the Layers palette.
2. Select the next layer up from the Background layer and go to Filter > Brush Strokes > Sprayed Strokes. Apply the settings shown above left using Right Diagonal Stroke Direction.

3. Select the next layer up and again go to Filter > Brush Strokes > Sprayed Strokes. Use the settings shown above right, with Left Diagonal Stroke Direction.
