To customize, explore your Options. The Options button is your gateway to many of iPhoto’s book-customizing options. Click the button, and the Options pane appears.
Exactly which options appear depends on what you’re doing. If you select a photo and click Options, the Options pane contains settings for borders and effects (described below). If you select a text element, you get font formatting options (page 123).
Adding borders and effects. You can have borders around any photo, and in several styles. Some borders allow for text captions, while others simulate shadows and even crinkled paper. To add or customize a border, select a photo, click the Options button, and choose a style.
You can also use the Options pane to apply a black-and-white, sepia, or antique effect to a selected photo. These are the same effects described on page 57, but if you apply them here instead of actually editing the photo, you won’t change your original—which is good if you’re also using that photo elsewhere, such as in a slide show or calendar.
