Chapter 2. The Organizer > Using Keyword Tags to Sort and Identify Photos

Using Keyword Tags to Sort and Identify Photos

Tags operate independent of where photos are located on your computer, which means you can attach a tag to photos in different folders—even on different hard drives—and then use that tag to quickly find and view those photos all at once. And since you can attach more than one tag to a photo, tags serve as great cross-referencing tools. For instance, if your daughter plays softball for the college she attends, a photo of her pitching on her home field might include tags called “Emily”, “Softball”, and “UCSD”.

To attach a tag to a single photo

  • Drag a tag from the Keyword Tags pane onto any photo in the Photo Browser (Figure 2.28).

Figure 2.28. To attach a tag to a photo, simply drag it from the Keyword Tags pane to a thumbnail image in the Photo Browser.

A category icon appears below the photo in the Browser window to indicate that it has been tagged; in the Keyword Tags pane, the tag assumes that photo for its tag icon (Figure 2.29).

Figure 2.29. When you use a tag for the first time, the photo you attach it to is used for the tag’s icon.
