GarageBand: Music, Podcasts, and More > Recording Other Audio Sources

Recording Other Audio Sources

Connect a microphone or other sound source to your Mac, and you can record a performance in a real instrument track.

Most mikes and guitars don’t produce a loud-enough signal for the Mac, which works best with a line-level signal like that of a cassette deck, for example. No problem—products aplenty await your wallet. M-Audio, MOTU, and others sell first-rate audio interfaces for the Mac. Cash-starved guitarists and bassists might use a device such as IK Multimedia’s StealthPlug (page 316). For vocals and acoustic instruments, another option is a USB microphone such as those made by Blue Microphones, Audio-Technica, and Samson.
