Brushed aluminum or brushed metal is a design texture made Apple OS X made popular in the mid 90s. It has since fallen out of favor for use in Apple interfaces, but is useful for 3D textures and more. It is a simple texture to create, but imparts rich details. In this first project, you learn how to use Noise, Gradient, and Polar Tiling hubs to create this rich texture. See Figure 6-1 for the results image and Figure 6-2 for the hub layout for this brushed aluminum texture project.
