Two. Understanding Light Travel

Admittedly, one of the most boring subjects in photography is the inverse square law. Matter of fact, it shouldn’t even be a thing. Most people don’t even know it’s a thing, but it’s a thing. So deal with it. And with that in mind, before you begin scratching your head and yelling out, “The inverse-jigga-whu?” and “Who put science in my art?!”...just hold on a sec.

Learning the inverse square law is a lot like riding a bike. No. Scratch that. Riding a bike is easy. Matter of fact, if you can’t ride a bike, put this book down and learn that instead. So really, it’s more like learning how to drive a car. It takes some time, concentration, and getting used to. Then, before you know it, you’re not thinking about driving; you’re just moving forward, next to other cars, slightly altering your direction from left to right, all while playing your favorite music and chatting with your friends.
