The Urban Shoot

Take, for instance, an urban shoot—where we walk downtown and hop in and out of alleyways, lean up against murals, duck into cafes and restaurants, and pose just to the edge of overflowing trash cans. These photographs can look cool and funky, and add such a different feel to the images than if, say, we were shooting in a traditional home environment. When I reference particular times, I’m not just talking about wanting to shoot during the best times for lighting—although I will get into that fairly soon—I’m also saying that certain locations are better suited for family shoots at certain times. I want us all to go into the shoot wholeheartedly and come more alive from the area we’re in as opposed to feeling shut down by it.
