Over the last ten years, I’ve shot at several dozen beaches and have learned so much about this particular type of shooting that I honestly believe I could devote an entire book to just beach photography. For now, though, I’ll be content with just writing this section of this book. Having shot in a variety of locations in multiple countries, I can say that there are quite a few considerations to keep in mind when selecting a beach as a location for a shoot:
• How crowded is it?
• How wide is the actual beach area, and how much remains after the tide comes in?
• Where is the sun rising and setting?
• How buggy is it?
• What kind of wind shelter is there?
• How clean is it? How much debris is washed up on shore?
• What kind of natural seating elements are available?
