Chapter 9. A Session on the Move

I think of my family photography sessions on location as mini field trips. That’s a rather apt take on it because we really are taking on an adventure of sorts. And, from my perspective, if it doesn’t feel like that, we’re not maximizing the possibility of this experience. I believe we should be exploring, we should be finding new areas to discover, we should be alternately blending in and standing out from the backgrounds, and we should be finding a spirit that is unique to these experiences compared to any other location. As to how we decide where to go comes down to a combination of several factors: the personalities of the families I’m photographing, the time of day we’ll be able to shoot, and the locations that are available to us based on time of year and proximity.
