The Castle’s Keep
For this session, the bride needed something epic, and I wanted to capture her more serious side. The Dee Wright Observatory is just such an epic location — it often reminds me of a scene from The Lord of the Rings.
AA.11 The Dee Wright Observatory in Oregon looks as though it’s straight out of the land of Mordor. An SU-800 triggered an SB-700 main light, and SB-800 and SB-900 Remotes. An OctoDome was used to soften the main light. Taken with a D700 at ISO 200, 1/200 second, using a Nikon 17–55mm at the 28mm setting, and f/2.8.

For my main image, which I call The Castle’s Keep, I wanted to use three speedlights, with two from behind to provide some dramatic flair and illuminate the lava rock structure. An SB-900 was placed camera left and an SB-800 camera right. An SB-700 was mounted on an adjustable stand and fired through a 3-foot OctoDome.
