Chapter 3 The Right Equipment for the Job screen brightness to view your images when you're out in the sun because you'll forget you did that and for the rest of the day you'll be shooting images that are really too dark because your screen is set so bright. 37 Vertical shutter-release button The vertical shutter-release button enables you to maintain the same relaxed hand/arm posi- tion when shooting either vertical or horizontal pictures. If your camera doesn't have this feature, check to see if the manufacturer offers an add-on battery pack. This addition often incorporates a vertical grip and a second shutter-release button. Short power-on time When you flip on the power button, how long does it take before you can shoot the first shot? More than one second is too long, especially if you shoot in a Photojournalistic style. A good wedding camera also has an automatic power-off feature, which shuts down the camera after a few minutes of inactivity. This same feature should wake the camera when you touch the shut- ter button, enabling you to leave the camera on throughout the whole wedding without worry- ing about draining the batteries.
