The V1 and J1’s exposure modes include Programmed auto (or Program mode), Shutter-priority, Aperture-priority, and Manual exposure mode, known collectively as PSAM modes, for their initials. These are the modes that allow you to specify how the camera chooses its settings when making an exposure for greater creative control.
The Nikon V1 and J1 can select an exposure mode for you from among a modest selection of automatically chosen settings. The available Scene modes the camera will opt for include Portrait, Landscape, Night Portrait, Close-Up, and Auto (for other types of subjects). Unlike other cameras, you can’t choose these Scene modes yourself.
1. Rotate the mode dial to the green Still Image mode icon.
