Going Topside
The top surface of the Nikon 1 cameras have their own frequently accessed components. Figure 2.9 shows the top panel of the Nikon V1; the Nikon J1 is very similar except that the multi-accessory port is replaced by an internal popup flash unit, and it lacks the housing for the electronic viewfinder.
Multi-accessory port (V1 only). Slide the SB-N5 electronic flash or GP-N100 GPS unit into this mount. If you have the AS-N1000 adapter, you can mount other accessories, such as the ME-1 stereo microphone on top of the camera. There’s more on using electronic flash in Chapter 5.
Focal plane indicator. This indicator shows the plane of the sensor, for use in applications where exact measurement of the distance from the focal plane to the subject is necessary. (These are mostly scientific/closeup applications.)
