Activating Your EOS 5D Mark II

Powering up your EOS 5D for the first time can be slightly puzzling for those new to the Canon product line, because the power switch, located on the lower-right side of the back panel, has (seemingly) two “On” positions. The rotating lever has an OFF setting, one marked ON, and a third setting marked with a symbol that looks like an uppercase L tipped over on its side, as shown in Figure 1.9. (It’s actually a marker “pointing” at the Quick Control Dial.) Don’t panic. You’re in no danger of powering up your camera improperly. Both the ON and the L positions turn the 5D on, but with a slight difference.
