CHAPTER 1 Gearing Up > Gear Extras

Gear Extras

It is definitely arguable what is considered an “extra” piece of gear, as opposed to an “essential” one. For example, I suspect there is not a professional videographer out there who would say that a tripod is anything less than desperately needed for a wedding shoot. However, as discussed in this book’s introduction, DIY wedding documentation has no rules or boundaries; as a result, what’s “essential” is more arbitrary. If, for example, your couple wants a more stylistic, arty look for their video (as opposed to a more journalistic approach), a tripod could be deemed unnecessary.

In the name of objectivity, I’ve called everything but the camera (and batteries and media) and computer “extra.” Within that realm, however—and depending on the style you are looking for—some of the following items could make a huge difference when it comes to giving your DIY project a professional look.
