10.1. Manual flash metering

Manual flash metering is not an obvious technique to master because the effects of a brief pulse of light can't be visualized by the naked eye. Moreover, the ambient light meters built into all EOS cameras can't be used for manual flash metering since they are not designed to do so.

There are essentially two ways of determining correct flash exposure without using automated flash: trial and error, and flash meters.
