B Backlighting 37 Top Rim Back Rim Side Side Front Three-quarter Three-quarter Base Backlighting is light that comes from behind the subject towards the camera, creating a rim of light around the subject. Some may be reflected or spill forwards to reveal additional detail that prevents the image from being a simple silhouette. Backlighting can be difficult to meter and can produce lens flare. Outdoors it is sometimes referred to as contre jour French for `against the light'. see Flare 119, Front Lighting 131, Rim Lighting 207, Side Lighting 225, Three-quarter Lighting 246
