D Darkcloth 82 Ground-glass viewing screens on large-format cameras are usually dim, especially with the lens set to the taking aperture. To see any image on the screen at all, it needs to be completely shaded from ambient light. The most convenient way to do this is with a large black cloth that covers the camera and the photographer's head. The darkcloth was once the `badge' of the photographer.
