Chapter 19. Working with Sound > Loading External Sounds

Loading External Sounds

Loading sounds as external files can decrease the size of SWF files and make SWF applications faster to download and perform better. Working with external sounds also gives you the ability to create MP3 players, podcast players, and other types of audio playback applications that can be embedded directly into a Web page or even as a stand-alone application that runs on a user’s computer.

Controlling externally loaded sounds is the same as controlling internal sounds. The difference is that an external sound file needs to be loaded into a sound object in order for it to be controlled.
