Without going into too much detail about Kanban, it is literally translated to English from Japanese as ‘signboard’. Developed by Toyota as a lean manufacturing process, Kanban has been adopted in software development as a way to track work in progress. Figure 3-1 shows a simple Personal Kanban application that allows you to create cards and track their status.

This application isn’t complete, feature rich, or polished. It is a minimal viable implementation of the idea of a Personal Kanban that you can expand on easily following the patterns and practices you learn in this book.
