AppleScript makes assumptions about many things you probably take for granted, such as that string comparisons are usually performed without regard to capitalization. These assumptions are similar to preference settings in an application. They are set by default to the behavior you might expect most of the time, so you usually don’t have to think about them. But they may not always be appropriate for a particular task, and AppleScript lets you change them.
