John Thorsen, of AppleScript training company TECSoft (http://www.tecsoft.com), claims that the value AppleScript automation adds to any workflow is so drastic that the actual speed in which the script runs doesn't really matter. After all, does it really matter whether the process that used to take 3 hours now takes 20 seconds or 30 seconds?

Although this is true, some scripts do need to perform as fast as possible, because after a while, people start comparing how fast they are in relation to other scripts, not how fast the manual process was. People forget quickly...
