Objects have three important characteristics: class, properties, and elements. Let's consider each of these in turn.

5.2.1. How Objects Are Categorized by Class

Humans love to categorize things; it's part of our nature. With applications representing lots of different kinds of data—disks, folders, and files in Finder; tracks and playlists in iTunes; and so forth—it's not surprising that the different kinds of objects that appear in scriptable applications should be categorized too.
