10.6. Storing Metadata

Every store type supports storing an NSDictionary of metadata. This may only contain types that can be stored in a property list, but can be loaded without needing to load the entire document.

A word processor might use this to store word counts, key words, author, and title information. An image editor might store a source image in a bundle, a load of modifications in a Core Data store, and the image size, type, and other similar information in the metadata dictionary.
