Panels are a special kind of window. All of the techniques that we have looked at for windows also apply to panels. Panels are typically used for floating palettes, inspectors, and similar windows.

Panels are normally used to contain parts of the user interface that are not central to the current model. If windows contain nouns, panels contain verbs and adjectives. They provide information about the current document, and things to do with it, but are not the focus of the user’s attention for a long time.
