26.1. Using BlazeDS

BlazeDS is an open-source, freely available implementation of Java-based server-side functionality that's designed to deliver data and process messages from Flex applications at runtime. It includes the following features that are shared with LiveCycle Data Services:

  • The Message Service. This service supports collaboration between Flex applications through a hub-and-spokes messaging architecture. Flex applications send messages to BlazeDS, and BlazeDS broadcasts the messages to other connected clients.

  • The Proxy Service. This service supports proxying of HTTP requests and responses between Flex applications and remote servers. Typically it is used when direct communication between clients and servers is restricted due to cross-domain security issues.

  • The Remoting Service. This service is a server-side gateway that allows Flex applications to call methods of server-side Java classes using binary Action Message Format (AMF).
