4.6. Containers

Containers are collections of components whose mission is to provide visual structure to your application. Their purpose is universal—to help you lay out your components visually rather than programmatically.

What changed significantly from Flex 3’s Halo/MX containers to Flex 4’s Spark containers is that with Halo/MX containers, the containers themselves provided different types of layout. For example Halo/MX has an <mx:HBox/> container that lays out items horizontally.
