Interacting with Azure Storage Options

Windows Azure provides a few different options when it comes to data storage. You’ll likely use table storage and SQL Azure for transactional needs and Blob storage for the housing of large data such as files. Depending on your needs, you may also use queue storage.

In this section I’ll talk about storing and retrieving data from these storage options using F# and the Windows Azure .NET API. Additionally, I’ll show you how to use Fog to improve this experience.

Blobs

Blobs are the primary storage option for larger data types. A single Blob storage account can hold just about anything less than 100 TB in size. Blob storage can be separated into logical containers and is often used to store unstructured data such as images, video, audio, and other files. The Windows Azure website provides an excellent tutorial for getting up and running with Blob storage.
