Chapter 8. Post-Process Effects

Post-process effects are responsible for many of the visual effects seen in modern games using Unreal Engine 3. A post-process effect is a form of adjustment or modification that is done to a scene after it has been rendered. You can think of it as a special effect that is applied to the camera and affects everything the camera sees. Simple examples include desaturation (going to muted colors or even black and white) and motion blur (see FIGURE 8.1). Post-process effects provide a simple way to completely change the overall look and feel of a scene without having to make any changes to existing materials or textures.
