Advanced Inform 7: A Brief Overview

Many of Inform’s most advanced features have not been touched on in this book. Here’s a quick introduction to some of the rest of what the language offers, and pointers to where you can learn more.

We’ve worked a lot with text, obviously, but all the text we’ve seen has been immutable: though a text variable may be updated to hold different text, or contain text substitutions, the contents of a string never normally change in the course of an Inform game. This may seem odd for a language devoted exclusively to text. But most of the time, the hope is that authors will be able to tell stories on a larger level than worrying about individual letters and words.
